Lucite

Lucite is a trade name for poly(methyl methacrylate), an acrylic glass that is shatter-resistant and can be used as a casting resin with a high heat- and chemical-resistance. Lucite was a very popular material used in sculpture and in furniture at the height of the mid-century modern movement. Its versatility and translucence made it the ideal substance for clear tabletops, transparent sculpture and design accents. Artists and designers are bringing on a lucite resurgence as the highly adaptable acrylic is now applied to numerous decorative and artistic uses.
