From Shray’s newest series, From My Fingers, My Heart Sighs, Shray creates these one-of-a-kind visceral works, all shaped by hand without the use of sculpting tools. This series draws from the human body in dance and movement, evoking shapes and angles that are at once raw and simultaneously fluid. Shray’s deftness as a sculptor is on stark display here, as these works have an immediate presence, but do not appear rushed or unformed. They are the results of expert craftsmanship clearly defined.

About Shray

Bronze sculptor, Shray, is one of the few working artists today who employs the subtractionist technique, where the artist finds the form in the clay as opposed to adding clay to an armature. Much like the technique of carving, Shray works with lines and shadows of the block, thoughtfully eliminating material from the block as she sculpts.
