With this new series of large-scale paintings, Shray debuts a singular vision with acrylic and mixed media with Italian marble dust. The first in her interactive expressionist series, Silent Thousand Words, this piece echoes the creative process for Shray: each artwork is a pathway for the viewer to be a participant, a joint creator to an ongoing story that extends beyond the artwork itself. Shray creates a door to the viewer’s sense of creation—a safe passage to one’s own message. “Interactive expressionism is my process and goal. This force allows me capture the essence of life—in the eyes, a tilt of the head, a flicker of a smile—the spark, the silent thousand words of a moment of human experience.”

About Shray

Bronze sculptor, Shray, is one of the few working artists today who employs the subtractionist technique, where the artist finds the form in the clay as opposed to adding clay to an armature. Much like the technique of carving, Shray works with lines and shadows of the block, thoughtfully eliminating material from the block as she sculpts.
