“You have to forget the rules, to create what what you want,” says Bruno Barbeyrol.
Born in La Rochelle, France, art designer, artist, and hair designer Bruno Barbeyrol lives just outside Montpellier, off the Mediterranean coast. Barbeyrol has won numerous hair design awards, most recently garnering nominations in the “Avant-Garde” category at the prestigious Hairdressing Awards France in 2013 and 2014.
Going beyond hairstyling, Barbeyrol uses original sculpture and photography to creates visual stories out of his portrait studies of his “fictional heroines.” His muses appear as female paladins attired in original metal sculpture, evoking warrior goddesses intent on capture without release. His feminine idols wear headdresses and helmets of scaled metal, or metal shoulder plates draped like fabric. They are warriors of strength and mysterious sexuality. Barbeyrol integrates reclaimed materials, fabric, and hair to effortlessly merge the hard and the soft, the human and the divine.
